The City of Boynton Beach is giving homeowners a financial boost to make their homes more energy efficient, stronger and safer. The City Commission has approved a temporary Building Permit Fee Rebate Program that refunds 100% of City-imposed building permit fees for qualifying storm-hardening improvements on homesteaded residential properties — with no application required.
The Program is in effect now.
The Storm-Hardening Permit Fee Rebate Program is currently active and available to homeowners in Boynton Beach. Eligible residents can begin taking advantage of this opportunity to improve their homes and receive a full refund on qualifying permit fees right away.
It covers permits applied for retroactively from May 1, 2026, through September 15, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
What the Program Covers
Homeowners who apply for a building permit for any of the following eligible storm hardening or energy efficient improvements to their primary residence may be eligible for a full rebate of City permit fees:
- Roof replacement (re-roof)
- Impact-resistant window and/or door replacement
- Hurricane shutter or hurricane protection installation
- Air-conditioning system changeout
- Generator installation
The permit application should pertain exclusively to the eligible improvement types indicated and must not encompass any additional work.
Who Qualifies
To be eligible, a homeowner must:
- Own and occupy a homesteaded residential property within Boynton Beach city limits (single-family homes, townhomes, villas, and condominium units qualify)
- Have received a homestead exemption as of January 1, 2026, per Palm Beach County Property Appraiser records
- Have applied for a building permit for one of the covered improvements during the Program Period (May 1 – September 15, 2026)
The rebate is issued directly to the property owner — not to the contractor — ensuring the financial benefit reaches the homeowner.
